Recognising an Extraordinary Journey on Foot Around the World
Nicolò Guarrera Completes a Five-Year, 36,146 km Journey
28 September 2026 – The World Runners Association (WRA) is pleased to welcome Nicolò Guarrera (Italy) as an Honorary Member, in recognition of his extraordinary five-year journey on foot around the world.
Nicolò left his home in San Tomio, Italy, on 9 August 2020 and returned on 13 September 2025, having walked a total of 36,146 kilometres across Europe, South America, Australia, India and the Middle East.
Following a detailed review of Nicolò’s journey, including his satellite tracking, daily logs and supporting route data, the WRA was able to reconstruct and verify his route in considerable detail. His journey does not meet all of the WRA’s technical criteria for ratification as an official world circumnavigation on foot, but the scale of his achievement and the exceptional quality and transparency of his documentation deserve special recognition.
The World Runners Association congratulates Nicolò Guarrera on his remarkable journey and is honoured to welcome him as an Honorary Member of the WRA.
